How to cover all nine Navagraha temples from a base in Thirunallar, with timings, offerings and an easy two-day route.
The nine Navagraha temples sit in two clusters around Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai, in the heart of the Cauvery delta. Thirunallar, home of the Saneeswaran shrine, is one of them, which makes a stay in Thirunallar a practical base for the whole circuit.
Why two days works better than one
Most temples close between about 12:30 pm and 4 pm. Trying all nine in a day means rushing each darshan and spending most of the day in the car. Over two days you can attend abhishekams, rest in the afternoon, and be back at the pool by evening.
Day one: the western temples
Leave around 5:30 am for Thingalur (Chandran), the farthest temple, then Alangudi (Guru) and Thirunageswaram (Rahu). Break for lunch in Kumbakonam, then Suryanar Kovil (Suryan) and Kanjanur (Sukran) once they reopen at 4 pm.
Day two: Thirunallar and the north
Start with an early darshan at Thirunallar (Sani), five minutes from the resort. After breakfast, drive to Keezhaperumpallam (Ketu), Thiruvenkadu (Budhan) and Vaitheeswaran Koil (Angarakan), finishing before the 1 pm closing.
